Introduction
"When you take your business on the net, you must take suitable
precautions to ensure it does not compromise the business or interests
of you or your customers". (Bank of Ireland, 2001) Security should
start from the bottom upwards. Information within companies and
organisations is by no means free, and therefore the vigilance associated
with security procedures should be valued for what it protects,
that is the functionality and well being of the company. With this
in mind an SME implementing the any kind of e-business should ensure
security is implemented from the offset.
A lot of SMEs use computers in their everyday business. These machines
are typically only Transactions Processing Systems or office systems
and are not linked to the outside world. Traditional Security was
mainly a physical method of securing the companies assets and its
premises. E-business security is a combination of traditional security
and electronic security that should be implemented in unison with
the E-Business Solution. We will deal with the constituent parts
of security, which we view as Threats, Solutions and Security Policy.
